iPhone, The Gaming Device

Posted in video games on June 18, 2009 by Carlos Macias

2355673Apple’s iPhone is a video player. A convenient way to download podcasts at the touch of a button. A media player subject to the owner’s “taste in music.” An ebook reader that lets you catch up on literature you’ve missed. And especially, much to the chagrin of many a hardcore player, a gaming device.

The iPhone is the most accessible platform to develop for and play on. Sure, it has its share of crap overflow but what traditional system doesn’t? Continue reading

Missed E3 Opportunity: Scribblenauts

Posted in E3 2009 with tags , , , , , , , on June 15, 2009 by Carlos Macias

Considering how much glitz, glamour and towering publisher booths make up E3, it’s easy to see how one can miss out on the small gems. This, no doubt, was aided by the fact that this was my first E3 and I was a mere fly drawn to all the pretty lights. Continue reading

E3 2009: Best Booth Babes

top pic 2While my main goal for this year’s E3 was to meet as many industry peeps as possible (and play tons of pre-release games), Frankie and my brother, J-Rock, snuck in with a much more noble task: to find the hottest booth babes at the show.

After a couple of years of shunning the tradition to have attractive models enticing gamers to publishers’ booths, E3 higher ups allowed them back in. Here’s how this year’s girls stacked up: Continue reading

GRADUATED: Can I Haz Job Now?

Posted in Meta with tags , , , on June 11, 2009 by Carlos Macias

grad pic...yee
Four years after high school and a kid on the way, I finally graduated today for a two-year degree! Well…I’ve been “graduated” since February but today was the official day I could flaunt it, I guess. My degree is in “Behavioral & Social Studies” or something similar that doesn’t really translate to the “market” at the moment. Any suggestions on how I can put my Associates of Arts degree — replacing my lost H.S. diploma — to use?

Education, schmen-cion, I say.

Apple Bottoms: Perfect Baby Gift?

apple bottoms babyThis past Sunday my girlfriend and I held a baby shower and over a hundred folks showed up. I didn’t know how much you all cared! Or, did you just show up for the free food? Hmmm. Anyway, Ariel and Adrian decided to gift us with quite possibly the most creative baby-preparin’ present of all: Nelly‘s own, homemade, and southern brewed Apple Bottoms clothing. Fancy! Apparently, there was a joke in there that I didn’t get…even after it was explained to me :\

E3 Expectations: ‘Crackdown 2’

If you’ve listened in to the Kezins GameCast at all, you know of my profound love for Realtime Worlds’ Crackdown. It was the game that came with your purchase of the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta but after playing it you knew it was so much more. Realtime gave you a massive open world where you and a buddy could jump around at your own leisure — working together or not — to find all those elusive agility orbs.

Ruffian games, which is made up of former Realtime Worlds guys, premiered a trailer for the sequel at Microsoft’s press conference. Here are a few of my thoughts on it. Continue reading

The Big 3: Who Had the Best Booth?

Posted in E3 2009 with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on June 6, 2009 by Carlos Macias

Never mind the games, fancy talk, and booth babes*. Who, out of Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft spent the most cheese to get our attention at this year’s E3? Follow me as I rank them based on who got more sprinkles in my eyes. Continue reading
